Since 2008, we have been supporting patients and survivors in the Panhandle.

Why We Started

"During my training as a hematologist, I became aware that cancer diagnosis not only affects the patient but also the family.

As a result of the disease, the patient's employment is interrupted, leading to financial hardship. I have seen patients who lost their jobs and then their houses because of interruption of their work due to cancer.

I remember a patient telling me that he would be better off if he died since at least his life insurance will pay for the mortgage and the financial need of his family.

That is why I was determined to not only provide my patients with the best care I know and be involved in research to improve their outcomes but also to set up a mechanism that would provide the financial safety net during their cancer treatment.

Being able to be involved with the Panhandle Cancer Cure Foundation is, therefore, a great honor to me."

Where we have gone

2008

A group of oncologists at Texas Oncology Cancer Center realized that their patients needed assistance faster than national foundations could provide and recruited volunteers from the community to form PCCF.

2009

The first PCCF Board was held and began to help with patients’ financial needs during their fight with cancer and blood diseases.

In October, the first SOS (Support Our Survivors) 5k/1mile race was held to raise funds and is still going today.

2013

In search of new ways to raise funds for the growing number of applicants for support, PCCF began to hold new events.

Including a Route 66 Motorcycle Run, an art show at the Cerulean Gallery, and silent autions.

2015

PCCF established the patient pantry in partnership with Texas Oncology and Texas Breast Specialists. A food collection and distribution program that would allow those battling cancer and blood disease the means to receive food while getting treatment.

2017

PCCF took over for Ronald McDonald House as the title sponsor and recipient of the funds raised by the Amarillo Marathon. A race that would allow those in the panhandle an opportunity to qualify locally for the Boston Marathon. This partnership would raise tens of thousands of dollars over the next 3 years before moving on to help support other local charities.

2021

PCCF continued to support the fight against cancer by establishing a new summer event, the Fun Clay Shoot. Which was a major success and raised over $41,000 despite COVID-19.

“Fundraising for PCCF became a goal for me in 2009. Working with cancer patients every day, I had been aware of their financial struggles through their fight against cancer. This is an overwhelming and difficult time for a person and reaching out and offering help is what we are all called to do. PCCF began to work hard to raise money to help patients in need in a timely manner. I am fortunate enough to be part of this community and offer support to cancer patients. All of us on the board of PCCF, have seen first hand how much these patients appreciate the help we offer.”
